Spiritual Tidbits & Rector’s Reflections for
June 2019 from Father Tim

June has arrived and the summer season is right around the corner! Our Church Ordo Kalendar begins June with Ascension Sunday and includes Whitsunday and Trinity Sunday. Enclosed within this month as well is the feast day of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. My prayer for June is for all of us at Saint John’s to dedicate June 2019 to The Sacred Heart of Jesus, and contemplate its meaning for our little Anglican Catholic parish. What do we hope, not only for ourselves, but also for St. John’s? His sacred heart is always the beginning of our hope. The beginning of June, Ascensiontide, falls within the liturgical season of Easter, which is represented by the liturgical color white — the color of light, a symbol of joy, purity and innocence (absolute or restored). The Ascension of Jesus left His disciples full of hope. After Ascensiontide we transition to Whitsuntide. On Whitsunday the liturgical color becomes red, symbolic of the love of the Holy Ghost and the hope brought by the tongues of fire. At the conclusion of Whitsun week we enter Trinitytide on Trinity Sunday, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed, and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, and even more so our hope of a glorious resurrection. Trinitytide represents the time of our journey toward heaven and which, at the end of our pilgrimage, we long to hear those hopeful words, ‘well done, thou good and faithful servant’. I pray your June is full of hope. ~ Father Tim

We need to know how to see the world as the Christian Fathers saw it; and the purpose of reascending to origins is that we should be able to return, with greater spiritual knowledge, to our own situation. We need to recover the sense of religious fear, so that it may be overcome by religious hope. ~ T.S. Eliot, The Idea of a Christian Society

Is there someone in your life who has not been baptized? Have they been considering baptism? Whitsunday and Whitsuntide is a beautiful season to be ‘born again’, enter the Holy Church, and wrap oneself in the life of Christ. Could this June bring eternal hope to someone you know? The experience must come from a true commitment by each person as they begin their own personal pilgrimage which leads to the Lamb of God. ~ Father Tim

To rejoice in the midst of a misfortune or seeming sadness, knowing that this may work for good, and will, if we be not wanting to our souls. This is a direct act of hope, to look through the cloud, and look for a beam of the light from God; and this is called in scripture “rejoicing in tribulation, when the God of hope fills us with all joy in believing.” Every degree of hope brings a degree of joy.. ~ Rt. Rev. Jeremy Taylor, 1613-1667, Anglican Caroline Divine, Holy Living, Holy Dying

June Spirituality Class

In June we will be continuing our transitional class with both Spirituality and Bible Study. The class in June will cover, The Psalms, focusing on Psalm 27. The study of God’s word is central to the life and mission of our parish church of St. John the Evangelist. Please join us after Holy Mass on the 16th of June for an engaging, dynamic, and informative exploration of the Holy Scriptures. All are welcome, but be warned: continued exposure to God’s word will change your life.

Do not let the past disturb you, just leave everything in the Sacred Heart and begin again with joy. ~ Mother Teresa

Our new Green Altar Hangings and Vestments have arrived. May God bless thrice-fold the anonymous donors who gave such a beautiful gift to Holy Church and the parish of St. John. Janet and I would also like to thank the entire parish for all the help and support during Savannah and Josiah’s wedding. We had 125 people inside our little church, a record I believe since I have been keeping the register, and St. John’s radiated beauty, holiness, and the light of Christ. All of you gave the wedding couple, and dozens of visitors, a joyful day to always remember. May God bless you. ~ Fr. Tim and Janet

I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries. Even so then at the present time also there is a remnant. ~ Jeremiah 23:3; Romans 11:5

The seeking of Jesus the Christ, and the quest for chivalry combined, lead directly to one place only: Anglo-Catholicism. Courage, honor, courtesy, justice, and a readiness to help and defend the weak and the poor. Welcome to the Anglican Catholic Church. ~ Father Timothy Butler
